BioGamaliel R. Herrera is a self-taught artist, diagnostic radiologist and contemporary art collector based in greater Miami. He started independently researching and collecting contemporary art after finishing medical training in 2001. From 2004 to 2008 he founded and directed Space Other, a contemporary art gallery in Boston, where he produced and curated over thirty exhibitions and projects. In 2011 he relocated from Boston to south Florida to pursue the development of his own artistic production. Since 2012 he collaborates with the Hamburg-based artist collective Friends and Lovers in Underground (www.friendsandloversinunderground.de), with whom he has been included in several group shows in Europe. In 2013 he won the first prize of the 6th All-Media Juried Biennial at the Art and Culture Center of Hollywood, FL with a mixed media and collage installation. Dr. Herrera received an education in the humanities, natural sciences, and medicine between San Juan and Madrid (B.S. 1992, M.D. 1996), and completed his medical internship, residency and fellowship in diagnostic radiology between New York and Boston from 1997 to 2001. From 2007 to 2011 he was Instructor of Radiology at Harvard Medical School. |
